Click here to orderCHASING THE VALLEY
by Skye Melki-Wegner

I'm not really sure how to categorize Chasing the Valley. Unless "Phantasmagorical" can be considered a category?

This book is an insanely glorious blend of Steampunk Adventure and Dystopian Fantasy with a touch of romance and the promise of the great series to follow.

Our heroine is plucky orphan girl, Danika Gylnn. Along with a rag-tag group of rebellious teens, Danika runs from an oppressive life of poverty in the slums of the city of Taladia -  striking out in search of Magnetic Valley. People have been whispering about "The Valley" for years. it is supposed to a safe haven, however, no one really knows where it is or how to get there.

Chasing the Valley has everything. A charming thief, a daring pilot, an evil smuggler and even (slight spoiler alert) royalty in disguise! I love royalty in disguise. Princes and Princesses masquerading as normal people? Yes please! That stuff never gets old, as far as I'm concerned.

Chasing the Valley is set in a fascinating world full of spectacular imagery. The whole time I was reading, I was reminded of Hayao Miyazaki films like Laputa: Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away. Blending traditional elements of fantasy with World War II era technology results in an explosion of pure whimsy. This is a world where everyone is born with a Proclivity - a mystical ability to control elements of the natural world. This is also a world where fighter pilots drop Alchemy bombs on cities, and people ride genetically engineered foxes. Giant foxes big enough to ride like a horse? How cool is that?!

Chasing the Valley is a non-stop, action-packed adventure from the first page to the last. I really can't remember the last time I read a book so quickly. I was literally unable to put this one down. Skye Melki-Wegner is an exciting new Australian talent and I can't wait to see where she takes this series.

Perfect for fans of Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones (plus the movie adaptation!), Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan.

RAVEN FLIGHT by Juliet Marillier
Click here to order Sarah says: This is the second book in the Shadowfell series and I am hooked. This is no big surprise. I adore Juliet Marillier and all of her works.

Heart's Blood
is one of my favourite Fairytale re-tellings ever, while Son of the Shadows is one of my favourite books, full stop.  If I could live in any place in the world (fictional or otherwise) it would be Sevenwaters.

The Shadowfell series may not be set in Sevenwaters, but I am prepared to forgive it for that. Mostly because I have a huge crush on  Flint.

In in classic Juliet Marillier style, Raven Flight is dripping with atmosphere. Readers will be transported to a world of ancient forests where magic hangs heavy in the air.

There is a quest. There is an epic love story. There is an evil tyrant who must be overthrown. Really, what more can you ask for?

Blurb: The second thrilling book in The Shadowfell trilogy by one of Australia's most loved fantasy writers.

Neryn thought she had lost everything and could trust no one, not even her mysterious companion, Flint. But when she finds refuge at the rebel base of Shadowfell and discovers her canny gift as a Caller, she feels the first stirrings of hope.

Now she faces a perilous journey with the rebel Tali and the Good Folk, who shadow her steps. She must find the three Guardians who can teach her how to use her unwieldy gift - one that it is rumoured could amass a powerful army.

Can Neryn master her magical power to save Alban from King Keldec's stranglehold?

Or will she be too late?

DEAR VINCENT by Mandy Hager
Click here to orderSarah says: This is one of the most touching and compelling Young Adult novels I have come across in a long time. A emotional roller-coaster of a read that is at once both heartbreaking and uplifting.

Dear Vincent is a powerful and enthralling novel from award winning author, Mandy Hager. Please don't pass this one by. It's a real treat - especially for art lovers (and Van Gogh groupies, like yours truly).

Perfect for fans of Sara Zarr and Deb Caletti.

Blurb: 17 year old Tara McClusky's life is hard. She shares the care of her paralysed father with her domineering, difficult mother, forced to cut down on her hours at school to help support the family with a part-time rest home job. She's very much alone, still grieving the loss of her older sister Van, who died five years before.

Her only source of consolation is her obsession with art - and painting in particular. Most especially she is enamoured with Vincent Van Gogh: she has read all his letters and finds many parallels between the tragic story of his life and her own.

Luckily she meets the intelligent, kindly Professor Max Stockhamer (a Jewish refugee and philosopher) and his grandson Johannes, and their support is crucial to her ability to survive this turbulent time.

KILL THE MUSIC by Nansi Kunze
Click here to OrderSarah says: Kill the Music is loads of fun! An engaging mystery with a dash of romance and also... rock stars! It's a formula that cannot fail!

Perfect for fans of Michelle Jaffe and Sarah Mlynowski.

Blurb: If everyone loves the world's hottest band, who's trying to destroy them?

Most people would love to be Lorna Powell, traveling the globe with her brother and his mega-famous band. Then again, most people don't realise just how annoying four handsome rock stars can be. A new home and a new school seem like the start of a normal life - until Lorna overhears a chilling plot to silence the band forever.

Soon Lorna is drawn into a frantic attempt to identify the killer before they strike. But it's not easy to track suspects around the world when she's got homework to do and secrets to protect. And when gorgeous lead singer Marius starts to act strangely, Lorna wonders if she's had the wrong idea all along . . .

BETROTHED by Wanda Wiltshire
Click here to orderSarah says: The first book in what promises to be an addictive new series. Betrothed is a charming tale of star-crossed love - bound to appeal to fans of Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series.

Blurb: Amy Smith has always known she was different. Severe allergies, fragile health and taunts at school have made life an endurance test for the adopted seventeen-year-old.

When Amy starts having strange dreams, everything changes. Night after night, she becomes trapped in a shroud of black - a void of silence but for a male voice calling for a girl named 'Marla'.

One night, the darkness clears, Leif is revealed and Amy discovers that she is the girl he has been searching for. Immediately the two are swept up in a passionate yet forbidden love.

Leif isn't like the other boys Amy knows. Breathtakingly gorgeous, he speaks with her telepathically...not to mention, he can fly...Desperate to find a way to be with her, Leif tells Amy of the terrifying threat to his Fae homeland, the danger to the people, and of an unforgivable betrayal to his King.

He urges her to seek her true identity. But Amy is confused...isn't it all just a dream?

Click here to order CITY OF BONES
by Cassandra Clare

Surely Cassandra Clare needs no introduction? If you have not heard of her, or The Mortal Instruments series, then presumably you are living under a rock. These books are hugely popular and there is a lot of hype surrounding the upcoming movie.

Now that the Twilight movies are (mercifully) over, everyone is scrambling to pick the next big Paranormal-Romance movie franchise - the one that will have teenage girls  - and their mothers - frothing at the mouth.

The Mortal Instruments series seems like a pretty safe bet here. It's got basically all the ingredients that made Twilight so popular. Star-crossed lovers? Check. Magical creatures? Check. Heroines with unlikely yet poetic sounding names? Check. Look out, Isabella Swan! Clarissa Frey is about to hit the big screens and not only is she a WAY cooler character, she also happens to be better cast. Lily Collins is approxiamtely one trillion times more talented than Kristen Stewart. (Admittedly, my dog Buddy is also more talented than Kristen Stewart... and he eats socks.)

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is set to be released in August. You can see the trailer here. And be sure to check out the gorgeous Movie Tie-In edition -  a must have for all Cassandra Clare fans.

Chloe MoretzThe latest scoop in Young Adult news is one that I am very excited about!

In case you are not aware, If I Stay by Gayle Forman (hands down one of my favourite YA authors) is being adapted as a movie! And the very talented Chloe Moretz - AKA Hit Girl from the movie Kick-Ass - has been cast to play Mia (the leading role).

If you haven't read If I Stay, please stop wasting your life and go get yourself a copy here.

And the best part about this very special book is that the sequel, Where She Went, is EVEN BETTER. It's rare that a sequel outshines it's predecessor, but Where She Went pulls it off. Fingers crossed it also gets adapted as a movie!

Don't miss the lastest installments in these three top selling series by Tara Hudson, Leigh Fallon and and J.A. London. And look! They all have girls in fancy dresses on the covers!

BECAUSE OF LOW by Abbi Glines
Click here to orderSarah says: Abbi Glines is basically the Queen of New Adult Fiction. Her wildly popular book, The Vincent Boys, was one of the first books to be labeled "New Adult" and helped define the genre.

Beacuse of Low is a fun, light read full of all the steamy romance and melodrama that has made Glines an international publishing sensation.

Abbi Glines writes super cute love stories with a super cool heroines and a super hot heroes. Every book is an addictive page-turner. Once you've read an Abbi Glines novel, you will be hooked...

Blurb: It's steamy in the Gulf town of Sea Breeze. Physical attraction is the only way to beat the heat in this start to a series from bestselling, previously self-published author Abbi Glines.

Playboy Cage owns the apartment, and he hosts a revolving door of people, in and out, at all times. Most of them are long-legged hot girls who are never there more than a night or two. When Cage's new roommate, Marcus, enters the picture, he's just looking to nurse a broken heart. But there's one particular semi-frequent regular who catches his eye.

Willow-"Low"-is the one Cage wants to marry. But the two of them are night and day, and Marcus can't see how Low puts up with all of Cage's womanizing. What she really needs is a real good-looking and sensible Marcus. But that's going to get real complicated and real messy-real fast.
