It's Patrick Ness Month! Otherwise known as "September".

There's so much going on right now, I feel like a kid in a candy store. First up, we've got a competition running to win a signed and numbered copy of our Book of the Month - the wonderfully amazing Patrick Ness novel, More Than This.

Also, it's that time of year when all the big time authors come out to play. We have a whole ton of exiting new releases from popular authors like Lauren Kate, Richelle Mead, Anthony Horowitz, Jonathan Stroud and (of course) Patrick Ness!

And last but not least we have a Free Shipping Promotion running until midnight this Sunday. (See details at the end of the newsletter.)

What I just read:
Ostrich by Matt Greene (Mainly because the blurb screamed at me "You will love this!". And the blurb was right!)

What I'm reading now: You Don't Even Know by Sue Lawson. (Because Australian YA is my favourite.)

What I'm reading next:  Teardrop by Lauren Kate. (Because it's Teardrop by Lauren Kate! Place your pre order here.)

Happy reading!

BOOK OF THE MONTH
Click here to order MORE THAN THIS
by Patrick Ness

So I'm about to start raving like hyperactive fangirl. Ready?

Carnegie Medal winner Patrick Ness is a truly gifted storyteller and hands down one of my favourite authors.

His writing is spellbinding. His Chaos Walking trilogy is breathtaking. The Knife of Never Letting Go set a new standard for me in terms of Young Adult fiction (a standard that very few authors are able to match, btw).

So yes, it's fair to say I had very high hopes for More Than This. I expected some trademark Patrick Ness genius. What I got was a whole new brand of genius. I can't even think how to put this into words, except to say that that this book was nothing like what I expected it to be and yet somehow everything that I wanted it to be (and so much more!)

Now. Perhaps you want to know what the book is about?

Ostensibly, More Than This is about a boy called Seth who drowns in the prologue (only Patrick Ness could pull off that off) and wakes up in Chapter One to find himself all alone in an abandoned world. But it's also about the meaning of life, and the nature of reality, and love, and loss, and the universe. And everything. Yep. It's about everything. That pretty well sums it up.

More Than This
, is brilliantly written dystopian literature, in the vein of The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Certain reality-bending elements of the plot also reminded me of The Matrix and Inception. Now before you start leaping to conclusions, let me be clear. If you think you know what kind of book this is based on reading the blurb or on anything I had said so far - you're wrong. This book has a way of refusing to be what you expect.

Is Seth lost in Limbo? Trapped in his own personal hell? Abandoned in a post-apocalyptic wasteland? Or... could it be none of the above? The only way to find out is to get reading.

More Than This is a thought-provoking, mind scrambling and
philosophically compelling read. It will lift you up and tear you down and then lift you up again... several times over.  It will subject you to a barrage of "Whaaaaaat?" moments that aren't so much plot twists as plot explosions. But the best part is that, on top of everything else that Patrick Ness has accomplished with this wondrous book, he also manages to tell a really enthralling and original story. In fact, More Than This entertains as much as it enlightens.

How often can you say that these days?

Order before 30th September to go in the draw to win THE ULTIMATE PATRICK NESS PACK - which includes a signed and numbered SUPER proof of More Than This plus signed copies of the three Chaos Walking books!

THE FALL OF FIVE by Pittacus Lore
Click here to orderSarah says: It has arrived! The eagerly awaited fourth novel in the best selling and hugely popular Lorien Legacies series, which began with I Am Number Four.

The Garde is reunited, but do they have what it takes to win the war against the Mogadorians?

Blurb: I thought things would change when I found the others. We would stop running. We would fight the Mogadorians. And we would win.

But I was wrong. Even though we have come together, we barely escaped from them with our lives. And now we're in hiding, figuring out our next move.

The six of us are powerful - but not strong enough to take on their entire army. We haven't discovered the full extent of our Legacies. We haven't learned to work together.

Time is running out, and there's only one thing we know for certain: We need to find Number Five before they do.

VANGO by Timothée de Fombelle
Click here to orderSarah says: A rollicking, old-school adventure novel by Timothée de Fombelle, author of the celebrated children's novel, Toby Alone.

Vango is meticulously researched and carefully crafted, including charming details such as maps, diagrams and a black and white photograph of a Zeppelin.

This book is a true treasure.

Blurb: This is a gripping mystery-adventure set in the 1930s interwar period about a character desperately searching for his identity.

Raised by a strange nanny in Sicily, Vango grows up with one friend, a priest Zefiro, who lives in a monastery hidden from sight.

On reaching adulthood, Vango decides to follow in Zefiro's steps, but at the moment he is taking his holy orders at Notre Dame in Paris, he is falsely accused of a crime and has to go on the run.

This is a breathless and highly cinematic story that follows Vango, travelling by Zeppelin across Europe from Stromboli to Nazi Germany, from Scotland to the Soviet Union, climbing the rooftops of Paris, crossing the paths of arms traffickers, crooked policemen, Russian spies and even Stalin.

This is a literary adventure on grand scale by an award-winning author. It is a brilliantly researched novel. De Fombelle invites English readers to view a familiar period of history with fresh eyes.

THE NEWSROOM
Shailene Woodley John Green's best selling novel, The Fault in Our Stars is being adapted into a movie. Oh happy day!

Shailene Woodley has been cast as Hazel Lancaster, the wonderfully wry heroine of this beautiful book. Coincidentally, she is also playing the role of Tris Prior in Divergent - another movie based on a best selling Young Adult novel.

Question: Do any movies get made anymore that aren't based on Young Adult novels? Inquiring minds want to know.

In preparation for her role as Hazel (a cancer patient) Shailene Woodley has reportedly chopped off her trademark long hair and donated the locks to charity. Go Shailene!

BTW: Augustus Waters (Hazel's boyfriend and one of the best fictional people I have ever met) will be played by Ansel Elgort. And yes. That is his real name. Google him if you don't believe me.

Ansel Elgort is also going to be in the Divergent movie, playing Shailene's brother. Soooo.... basically these guys are playing brother/sister in Divergent and then boyfriend/girlfriend in The Fault in Our Stars. Both movies will be released in 2014. Ain't Hollywood crazy?

For those unfamiliar with The Fault In our Stars ... shame on you! Go and read it immediately. That goes for all John Green novels. John Green is a gift to world. A glorious genius and a prince among men. If you don't know this, then I pity you. I'm not kidding around here. I feel really bad for you, you poor soul.

The solution to your problem is here.

You're welcome.
OSTRICH by Matt Greene
Click here to orderSarah says: This beautiful, emotionally complex coming of age story has been described as The Fault in Our Stars meets Submarine.

It has also drawn comparisons to Wonder by R. J. Palacio and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon.

Need I say more?

Blurb: Alex has a story to tell. He just doesn't know what kind it is yet.

He's got a lot of the same concerns most of us do growing up (exams, puberty and, in his case, a punctuation obsession plus a little quantum mechanics) but lately, ever since his brain surgery, everyone in his life is behaving more than a little mysteriously.

Maybe it's adjusting to life after epilepsy or maybe it's the pressure of his pending scholarship application, but Alex is starting to see the world through different eyes. He's certain there's something rotten at the heart of his parents' marriage, and when his beloved hamster Jaws 2 starts acting up as well he decides it's time to investigate.

So begins the journey that takes him to the limits of his understanding, the edge of his endurance, the threshold of manhood, and the country music aisle in Virgin Megastore. And eventually, on the eve of his English Composition exam, to the door of his mother's home-made dark room. But will Alex have the courage to expose the terrible secret that lies beyond? Or would it be better for everyone if he buried his head in the sand?

GRAPHIC NOVEL OF THE MONTH
Click here to order JANE THE FOX AND ME
by Isabelle Arsenault & Fanny Britt

This honest and visually stunning graphic novel reveals the casual brutality of which children are capable, but also assures readers that redemption can be found through connecting with another, whether the other is a friend, a fictional character or even, amazingly, a fox.

Hélène has been inexplicably ostracized by the girls who were once her friends.

Fortunately, Hélène has one consolation, Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. Hélène identifies strongly with Jane's tribulations, and when she is lost in the pages of this wonderful book, she is able to ignore her tormentors.

But when Hélène is humiliated on a class trip in front of her entire grade, she needs more than a fictional character to allow her to see herself as a person, deserving of laughter and friendship.

Leaving the outcasts' tent one night, Hélène encounters a fox, a beautiful creature with whom she shares a moment of connection...

WARNING: New Adult fiction is targeted at readers who are aged 18+. These books are about being young and reckless, falling in love for the first time and experimenting with the kinds of irresponsible behavior commonly associated with the crazy youth of today.

In other words, these books are just a

WAIT FOR YOU by Jennifer Armentrout
Click here to order Some things are worth waiting for . . .

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at that fateful Halloween party five years ago-an event that forever changed her life.

What she never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she's building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing . . .

Cameron Hamilton is six feet, three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make Avery want things she believed had been irrevocably stolen from her. Getting involved with him is dangerous. Yet ignoring the simmering tension that sparks between them-and brings out a side of her she never knew existed-is impossible.

Some things shouldn't be kept quiet . . .

But when Avery starts receiving threatening e-mails and phone calls, she's forced to face a past she wants to keep buried and acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. If the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface with one less scar? And will Cam be there to help her?

And some things are worth fighting for . . .
