Starring: Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchette, Louis C. K., Peter Sarsgaard, Bobby Cannavale
Directed by Woody Allen

After everything in her life falls to pieces, including her marriage to wealthy businessman Hal (Alec Baldwin), elegant New York socialite Jasmine (Cate Blanchett) moves into her sister Ginger's (Sally Hawkins) modest apartment in San Francisco to try to pull herself back together again. In a fragile mental state, emotionally precarious, and lacking any practical ability to support herself, Jasmine sees a potential lifeline when she meets Dwight (Peter Sarsgaard), a diplomat who is quickly smitten with her beauty, sophistication and style.

Throughout his career, Woody Allen has created many indelible female characters portrayed by some of the world's greatest actresses. Certain to make her place in this gallery of multifaceted, complex, and richly observed women is Jasmine, the troubled heroine of Allen's Blue Jasmine, portrayed by an extraordinary and regal Blanchett.

She stars alongside an incredible supporting cast in this emotionally powerful drama that is wise, tender and funny in equal measure.

MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY ON CHRISTOPHER NOLAN'S LATEST PROJECT
Matthew McConaugheyMatthew McConaughey could be on the brink of Oscar glory, and his year is set to get even better when he takes the lead in Christopher Nolan's new film, Interstellar.

McConaughey has been discussing the new film with Variety, and sounds a little bit in awe of Nolan and the way he goes about his business...

"Here's what I can tell you, It's the most ambitious thing he's ever done," says McConaughey. "And he's done some ambitious stuff..."

"There's no messing around on set," he continues. "He's a great problem solver. In that way, he's very indie. Here's a guy who could have whatever budget he wants - and we finished shooting early."

And as for how his casting came about, it sounds as though the process was very informal indeed...

"He came up to me and said, ' Mud. I love that movie.' I sat down with him for about 2½ hours at his house. Not one word came up about Interstellar. I walked out not sure what to think. I mean, he's not a guy who takes general meetings!"

Directed by Nolan and co-starring Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck and many more, Interstellar is expected to open in Australia later this year.

WILL CATE FINALLY BRING A BEST ACTRESS OSCAR HOME?
Cate BlanchettAfter being controversially snubbed for an Oscar for her role in Elizabeth, Cate Blanchett is now all but assured of Oscar glory for her role in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine.

Right?

Well, let's hope so.

Cate Blanchett has been poised to take home the Best Actress award since the day Blue Jasmine was released, and she's still holding on nicely after wins from SAG, the Critics Choice and the Golden Globes.

However, had Amy Adams not been nominated it would be a done deal. But Adams - the only nominee who hasn't won - gives this race a slight chance at an upset, especially given a vote for Blanchett might seem like a vote for Woody Allen in light of the recent controversy facing the director.

If she does win, Blanchett will surely solidify her position as one of modern film's finest actors. Australians have known it for years, so fingers crossed the Melbourne girl can take home the big gong.
