'CHRISTMAS IS COMING AND THE GEESE ARE GETTING FAT...'
Growing up I always knew the holidays were on their way when first, the cherries came into season, and second, my mother began to sing this classic from among her repertoire of ditties: 'Christmas is coming and geese are getting fat, please put a penny in old man's hat. If you haven't got a penny, then a halfpenny will do, if you haven't got a halfpenny, then God Bless You!'

And God Bless you, if you don't have a halfpenny, because you will want them this Holiday season. I know that I have only recently bombarded you with the amazing pickings for November (click here to read the November Buzz again) but I simply couldn't let the Holiday season go any further without giving you a chance to prepare all your summer feasts and scrumptious gifts for friends and family.

Below you will find a selection of Christmas cooking titles, as well as some classics on the subject from Australian Women's Weekly. I have also put together some non-Christmas titles, for all those who are enjoying the holidays in other ways. Those looking forward to many hours of entertaining kids over the summer will find a couple to choose from, and our celebrities of the month have put in a word or two to help entertaining for friends and family a breeze. I haven't forgotten those vegetarians who might want to enjoy a feast, or the more waist-line conservative either. Throughout there are plenty of gift selections, my pick of the bunch would have to be the Masterchef cookbook, Chunky series and Moorish.

And as a very special holiday present to all those lovers of good fresh fruit and vegies, Booktopia has 50 signed copies of Stephanie Alexander's Kitchen Garden Companion! I waxed lyrical about this book in my last newsletter, so won't repeat myself here, suffice to say kids from ages 2-102 will love the recipes and techniques collected together by this master of Australian cooking. Click here to read more, including an exclusive recipe for Booktopia from Stephanie, and a Q&A.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I have,

Mr Dahl's wonderful culinary creations brought straight from his novels to life. Fans of his books will recognise Snozzcumbers, or a Fresh Mudburger as soon as it is served up from dinner. Thankfully, all sound worse than they really are, Stink Bug Eggs, for example, are really just devilled eggs with food colouring and parmesan, and Mr. Twit's Beard Food consists of mashed potatoes, hard–boiled eggs, mushrooms, and cocktail franks cunningly rearranged. These recipes are kid-friendly to the palate, easy to prepare side-by-side with even very little-ones and are sure to excite the imagination.

WINE
I DRINK THEREFORE I AM: A PHILOSOPHER'S GUIDE TO WINE

Roger Scruton

Taking a very good natured look at the history of wine from the Ancient Greeks to Christian Eucharist tradition, and onto the present day, Scruton makes the argument that not only can a glass or more help you think, it will positively lubricate your powers of philosophy. He suggests wine as a new lifestyle regime, designed to liberate you from much of the pretentious dribble written about wine today, and the cultural stigmas surrounding grog in general.

THAI STREET FOOD

David Thompson

This book is so divine it is difficult to tell whether it is an art book or a cooking book. The images are so fabulous you will swear you have walked off the plane and into Thailand when you fall into into it. Thompson starts with morning food, snacks mainly, deep fried and hand-held delectables, before launching into noodles for noon.
For each recipe Thompson gives the Thai name and history of the dish for example 'Pat Thai' emerged in 1930s and 40s under the military regime of Phibun who established a competition to get people eating noodles - and it was the winner.
